The Public Service Commission of Maryland (MDPSC) approved a joint settlement for the general rate case filed by Maryland American Water, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water Works Company, Inc. The settlement grants a consolidated annualized increase in water revenues of approximately $2 million. Approximately $1 million of the increase became effective concurrently with the MDPSC order on February 26, 2026. The remaining portion of the increase will become effective on January 1, 2027. The revenue increase is primarily driven by approximately $22 million in capital investments completed by Maryland American Water since its last general rate case approval in 2019. Maryland American Water's view of its return on equity (ROE) is 9.75%, with a common equity ratio of 52.32% and a debt ratio of 47.68%. Residential customers in the Town of Bel Air using 4,000 gallons per month will see their average bill increase by approximately $10 per month effective February 26, 2026, and another $10 per month effective January 1, 2027. In the Severn District, residential customers previously billed a quarterly flat fee will transition to a monthly flat fee, which will increase by approximately $1.50 per month effective February 26, 2026.
